A day in the life of Kate Trgovac - An SeoVice Interrogation!

SeoVice caught up with Kate: www.mynameiskate.ca a short while before the happiest day in her life, her wedding day and moment before taking off to Ad:Tech

Besides being a strong, independent, Canadian woman, Kate's constantly hard at work at reINVENT!, a boutique marketing firm she started focused on helping brands reconnect with their audiences through marketing participation and co-creation.

Hey Kate, Thanks for taking a moment to talk to us and Congratulations on your wedding!

1. Give us a little background info about you, how long have you been involved in the online marketing industry?

Too long  I’ve actually been marketing online since 1989 when I was part of a software r&d group. We used mailing lists and FTP sites to get the word out about our educational software products.

2. Now share the real dirt about you.

Hmm … I guess it’s that I’m truly an uber-geek. Sure, I like the marketing glitz and glamour, but I like a line of elegant code even more. Some days I just want to move back down to the basement and code for a living.

3. What two websites do you visit everyday, other than your own and why?

Well, technically I don’t visit any sites b/c I get everything in my feed reader, so .. which feeds do I ALWAYS read? CuteOverload (if any marketer ever figures out how to do what CuteOverload does, they will be successful) and probably the TED blog. I love the TED conference and they are always posting videos from previous conferences.

4. What personal online projects are you working on?

Well, OneDegree.ca is likely my biggest personal project. It’s a Canadian Internet Marketing blog … I’ve recently taken it over from its previous owner and we’re in the middle of a redesign. I’m also contributing to a new Second Life magazine and an SL fashion blog, as well as trying to learn to build in SL. Just to try to understand virtual worlds a bit better.

5. Are you noticing a shift in traffic to your website coming more from social sites, as opposed to search engines?

Not really. Search is still delivering more of my traffic. Where I participate in a social network, sure, I see more traffic. But my blog is really well indexed so whether people are searching for me, movie reviews, marketing advice, SL skins or laptop bag reviews, they find my blog.

6. Who in the online marketing industry do you look up to and why?

My clients. I work with the best clients in the world and I am so thrilled that they have the courage to try new things and play with their brands in the online/social media space.

7. If you don't mind me asking, what's your best kept online marketing secret?

You will be forgiven much if you are truthful and transparent.

8. What has been your biggest professional achievement?

Not having to do any active business development. I managed to work with clients and with people that are exceptional, pull together as a team and accomplish something amazing. When that happens, other people want to use your services so all my new clients have come through word of mouth.

9. What are the best thing and the worst thing about the online industry?

Best thing .. the excitement, innovation and passion. Worst thing … blinking banner ads.

Thanks again Kate and best of luck with www.OneDegree.ca be sure to come back and let us all in when it's launched!
