One of the most important characteristics a person needs within the marketing industry is sharp senses.
You could easily get side-tracked or loose focus of what you're trying to achieve.
Who better to discus this trait than with Stephanie Weingart, Marketing Manager of nycpocket.com and Blog owner of www.frozen2late.com
Hi Stephanie, it's too bad we couldn't meet at Ad:Tech...
1. Give us a little background info about you, how long have you been involved in the online marketing industry?
My interest in the online marketing industry started while I was in the NYC music group, Dayglow. I started promoting the group on Myspace, blogs, and link exchange which lead to record label attention. That is what really made me recognize how powerful the online market is. Since then I have been doing and learning as much as possible about the industry.
2. Now share the real dirt about you.
I am really unsure what to share. I really don’t have any online marketing dirt, besides reading search & social marketers blogs and stealing their ideas is dirt. I run a pretty clean show.
3. What two websites do you visit everyday, other than your own and why?
I am on Facebook and Engadget everyday. Engadget is by far my favorite blog and keeps me up to date on all these awesome gadgets that are coming out everyday.
4. What personal online projects are you working on?
I am working on a ton of stuff. I have a lot on my table, but only so much I want to share. I have a feeling that the new Facebook Business section will be heavy on my agenda as well as a few other things.
5. Are you noticing a shift in traffic to your website coming more from social sites, as opposed to search engines?
Yes! Tons of traffic from social sites. It helps so much for me to see social trends, which is not always so apparent from search engine traffic. It sometimes takes a little bit more work, but it is much easier to reach your target on Social Networking sites.
6. Who in the online marketing industry do you look up to and why? Feel free to randomly give shot-outs and props to anyone
I admire so many people in the industry. There are so many blog authors that I am unsure I could live without. But I really owe a lot to Danielle & Chris Winfield of 10e20 Llc. They have helped me to learn a lot about the industry and are incredibly talented at what they do. With their motivation and advice, I’ve been able to work on projects until 4AM.
7. If you don't mind me asking, what's your best kept online marketing secret?
I’m developing some good skills, but I keep my secrets for now. There are so many great SMM/SEO/SEM blogs out there that are giving away marketing skills for free!
8. What has been your biggest professional achievement?
I am still very new within the industry. I am still learning so much and growing with the industry. I think it is important to be very flexible because at the blink of an eye it can all change. However, I have been managing a website for the past few months that is growing phenomenally and at a quick rate. I am also managing a few powerful blogs at the moment that I am very proud of.
9. What are the best thing and the worst thing about the online industry?
The best and the worst thing about the online industry is the rapid growth of the social sphere and how it affects marketing. It is such a wonderful tool but sometimes it can act as an enemy.
Thanks for talking to us, Good Luck with all your projects and make sure to come back here to update us on anything you're launching!!
